Track Day – May 12 – Grand Bend

Event Date:

May 13, 2022

Event Time:

9:00 am

Event Location:

Grand Bend motorplex

Each track day has 3 groups. Red, Yellow, and Green. Each group will have a 15-20 minute session at a time and then break for the other groups. Please select the group that best suits your current track skill level.

  • Green – For novice/beginner riders. Passing is only permitted on straightaways.
  • Intermediate/Yellow – This is for experienced track riders only. Passing on the inside is prohibited if the rider in front of you has begun turning in. Passing on the outside is permitted.
  • Advanced/Red – The fastest group on the track. Passing is permitted anywhere. Highly experienced riders only.

Track Day Requirements

Technical:

  • Your motorcycle needs to be in good working order.
  • Tires and brake pads also need to be in good shape.
  • Track day organizers ask that you take the glycol coolant out and replace it with something less slippery in case it leaks on the track. If coolant gets spilled, it takes time to clean up and the track is red-flagged until it is. Distilled water or a mix of distilled and Water Wetter are options. Please make sure to replace your coolant before you arrive at the track.
  • You will need to tape up items that could cause debris to spread on the track, such as lights and mirrors. This will keep broken pieces taped together and limit debris. Also, it’s important to focus on what you are doing, not others. Please remove mirrors for your safety and the safety of others.
  • Bring zip ties with you. Make sure to tie your kickstand, and have more on hand if needed for other items during the day.

What to wear:

  • Full leathers required – Jacket and pants, one or 2-piece, with the 2-piece having a 360 zipper
  • Full Face Helmet
  • Gloves that go past your wrist and cover all exposed skin
  • Proper riding boots that cover the ankle

General Rules:

Track days are fun and social and we are all here to share our love of riding. The best part of track days is having a safe environment to improve our riding skills, which in turn, make us better riders on the street. ASK FOR HELP! And SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHERS! Don’t worry if you are new to riding on the track. We are here to help you improve, and those who are advanced, offer up your suggestions and advice if you notice areas that could help them improve. If you are offered advice, please receive it knowing it’s in the spirit of helping improve your skill level. There is a wealth of experience at these events. Be open to constructive criticism.

It is possible to move down a group if you feel uncomfortable in the group you are in. Keep in mind that you need to adjust to the rules of the new group.

Dehydration can cause general weakness, muscle cramps, and loss of concentration – all not good things if you’re preparing to brake at the end of a straight in sixth gear. Every time you finish a session, drink a good amount of water, no exceptions. It’s a common occurrence to get dehydrated on first track days if you don’t take proper care.

There will be many riders at the track, all at different skill levels. For some, it will be their first track day, while others will be semi-professionals. If you are a beginner, don’t try to ride above your comfort or skill level, especially on your first track day. Please, don’t compare yourself to advanced riders. Comparing yourself and trying to keep up is the worst thing you can do. At all times you should ride within your comfort zone. This is why there are 3 groups.

Camping and food:

It’s possible to arrive the day before and camp overnight. When we do, it is a great time and a chance to get to know each other. The gate closes at 10 PM. If you want to come the day before, please don’t arrive until after 6:30 PM, or contact Grand Bend Motoplex if you want to come earlier.  519-238-RACE

We will provide lunch, for example (BBQ, Sandwiches, Pizza) and we will provide water and fruit as well. Remember to keep hydrated

Have fun! Track days are meant to be social and fun, and developing skills at the track will only improve your riding on the street. Riding track is addictive and we are excited about the 2022 season. Ride Safe and Let’s Just Ride!
